About me
The industry
Engineered solutions
On one hand, I could put up a bunch of meaningless accolades which no one would really care about. On the other hand, I have been in this industry for many, many years. I have developed my own reputation, mostly through through hard work, working to make the industry better, working to make materials more user friendly on the jobsite. Many of you already know me. If you are new to the industry or searching for a solution to a problem which seems unsolvable, you can probably find someone in the industry that does know me. One of my specialties is finding solutions to complex concrete issues which either others cannot or simply fail coming out of the gate using the same ol, same ol. I have a 1.5msf project right now where, basically, everyone known to God has been in the facility and cannot get their efforts to stay on the deck for a whole week. My repair, as installed by the contractor, will not come off. I am not specifically looking to give you an expensive repair procedure. There is an infinite supply of either jobs with compromised flooring issues or sick building syndrome. My advice to you is to cut your concrete out and repour. If that cannot be done, then let's talk. Otherwise, when dealing with day to day issues in this business, visit this part of our website to see how we can give you higher performance flooring materials, which are user friendly to install on the jobsite, quicker installation windows and pay less so you have a little left over at the end of the day or end of the project. Mostly, working with owners and contractors solving problematical jobs. Some of you may know me from a seminar or a speaking engagement. I cannot tell you, over the years, how many contractors I have visited. Many contractors have asked me to come out and visit their jobsites to watch their operation. At first, I would ask myself, why am I here? I would look at the contractor's work, his equipment and his people. I would think to myself that I couldn't do this operation any better if I were doing it myself. You know that you are dealing with a contractor, no matter what the job is, you can sleep at night. You don't need to worry about getting a bad job or whether the contractor is going to pay his bill. The trunk bangers or the pickup truck contractors are the ones you have to worry about. Then one contractor told me that the reason I was there was, yes to demonstrate that they were not a less than desirable contractor, but to talk to the crew. Usually, for a half a day and lunch. I was there to give a seminar to the contractor's crew, for a number of reasons. My mission is to impart professionalism in the flooring industry. One of the things that I have always told the men and women in our industry, regarding being the best that you can be, is if you take the attitude that, you not only want to learn more about what it is and why that you are doing it, but understand how everything fits into a mosaic. The more you understand, the better you feel about what you are doing, you add value to yourself and value to your employer. One day, you may decided to breakaway and start your own company. You will be better prepared to meet that challenge. Or, if you leave the industry, which no one will blame you for, as concrete and its dust is very unforgiving, you will take a higher level of craftsmanship that will help you in another endeavor.

This is a great image. It says it all or everything that you need to know about flooring. We all that a picture is worth a thousand words. In this picture, the right half can either represent a new floor that we do not want to turn into the floor on the left, or taking a problematic floor on the left and turning it into the floor on the right.
In our profession, so many companies which 'manufacture' flooring solution materials or flooring installers or architects or engineering companies, make recommendations or enact installation procedures which end up looking like the picture on the left in the industry slot. Cookie cutter solutions do not work in this industry as concrete is different not only from project to project, but can be different from floor to floor on the same project. The basic premise of engineering is that form is a function of stress. Meaning if you envision a desired result, all the factors which can compromise achieving the desired result must be taken into effect or account before a specification protocol is written. In the same vein, when looking at a failed or compromised floor, the consequences of how the floor came to be in that condition requires forensic investigation or reverse engineering to determine how the floor manifested into its current condition, then using the findings of forensic discovery to write a repair protocol.
